About Me

Hello, My name is Fernando. I am a Computer Science and Engineering Assistant Professor with over 10 years of experience in Frontend Development and UI/UX design and experience with cross-cultural and distributed teams and in international settings.

I grew up in Puerto Rico, got my Ph.D. in Computer Science in Minnesota, and lived in Tokyo for over 5 years. I am now back in Puerto Rico as a Professor at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez.

I am particularly interested in Human-Computer Interaction, Social Computing, and Web/Mobile Development.

Education

I love both to learn and to teach. I look for ways to make learning more fun and engaging.

Languages

I speak four languages (Spanish, English, Japanese, and Mandarin Chinese) and am learning Russian and Korean.

I thrive working with people from diverse backgrounds. I have lived in 4 countries and have been to over 40.
